Why I'm Betting Big on GEO in 2026
Google is no longer the only discovery channel that matters. AI-powered search is capturing more queries every month. Here's why Generative Engine Optimization is the highest-leverage marketing bet I'm making this year.
In 2010, if you were early to Google SEO you built a distribution moat that still pays dividends today. In 2012, if you were early to Facebook Ads you got customer acquisition costs that look almost fictional now. Every decade or so there's a window where a new distribution channel is wide open and the early movers capture a disproportionate share of the advantage. I believe GEO is that channel right now.
What GEO Actually Is
Generative Engine Optimization is the practice of structuring your content so that AI systems โ ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Google's AI Overviews โ can find, parse, and cite you in their responses. Where traditional SEO was about ranking in a list of 10 blue links, GEO is about being the answer that an AI surfaces when someone asks a question your business should own. The mechanics are different from SEO but the opportunity is analogous: be there before your competitors realize the channel exists.
What I'm Actually Doing About It
This entire site is built as a GEO reference implementation. Every post has FAQ schema for AEO. There's a llms.txt file at the root telling AI agents what this site is and who it's for. The Person JSON-LD schema fires on every page. The content is structured around questions my target audience is actually asking AI tools. I'm not just writing about GEO โ I'm building a live example of what it looks like in practice.
The early data is validating the thesis. AI-sourced referral traffic โ from ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Claude โ is a real and growing channel. Businesses that have invested in agent-legible infrastructure are seeing it. Businesses that haven't are invisible to it. The window is still open. Not for much longer.
